Start your private tour with pick–up from your accommodation in Mumbai, head to the Kanheri Caves, located deep within the green forests of Sanjay Ghandi National Park, one of Asia’s major national parks. The caves are a marvellous architectural feat. All 109 of them were chiseled and carved out of a huge basaltic rock outcrop. The smaller caves, known as viharas, served as resting places for the monks. The larger caves, known as chaityas, are lined with various exquisitely carved Buddhist sculptures and were commonly used as places for worship.
In the main hall stands the towering figure of the Lord Buddha measuring about 7 meters in height. The interior has a colonnade of 34 majestically carved pillars. The eleven-headed Avalokiteshwara is the most distinctive motif. There are about 100 inscriptions in different scripts – Brahmi, Devnagri, Pallavi and Sanskrit.

After an hour long boat ride to Elephanta Island from the Gateway of India, explore the magnificent caves. The outer caves were used as a place of Hindu worship until Portuguese rule was established. The caves further in are smaller and are Buddhist caves.
The main cave, otherwise known as the Shiva Cave, contains numerous carvings throughout depicting various aspects of Lord Shiva including his wedding, his slaying of Andhaka and more. There will also be a sculpture of the Trimurti in the main cave that is approximately 20 feet tall.
Other wings of the caves have shrines dedicated to Shiva’s sons, Kartikeya and Ganesh. Book and explore this UNESCO World Heritage site with a guide from Gharapuri, which is a small village on the south side of the island.

Your first interaction will be with a newspaper vendor and then you walk across the street to the fruit , flowers and vegetable wholesalers who are surrounded with men and women bargaining for fresh supplies for the day ahead.
If you are still sleepy – the next stop is bound to wake you up, the smell of fish! The Sassoon docks are an incredible experience. It is the city’s first wet dock and the only one open to the public. Your guide will then accompany you to the flower market which is flooded with all kinds of roses: white, pink, red, yellow and various other kinds of flowers, garlands and bouquets.
You will then take a train again to Mahalaxmi, known as Dhobi Ghat (Open Air Laundry) where clothes are washed in full view of the public. After checking out this unique phenomenon, you will take a taxi to Chor Bazaar, one of the largest flea markets in the entire country. Then, take a taxi to Churchgate. Here, you will find the
